Speak to your PDA!:

Pre-record voice samples of your favorite TeleType functions.

TeleType offers the unique capability to train your PDA to understand your commands when navigating. You can select from 16 available commands such as Zoom In, Zoom Out, Re-route.

Under the View>Preferences>Voice menu you can change many voice options. To record samples of your voice tap the training button and select a command to record. Make sure you are in a quiet environment for optimal recording. Once you have trained the program to recognize specific commands you can assign a hardware button to activate the voice recognition. Select this button with the “Push to talk” drop down box. When the selected button is pressed during the program use your PDA will listen for the commands that you recorded.

Route to and from an intersection:

Type in two streets separated by a plus sign.

Example: to do a route to the corner of Main Street and Broadway. When you click the To box it will prompt you to enter an address. Simply enter nothing in the num field and enter “Main + Broadway” in the street field. For faster address finding you may enter a city, state, or zip, however there is no need. The program will search for the closest matches to the location of your current view.

Use the new Pan and Zoom tool:

Toggle between panning and zooming with the tool icon.

The pan-zoom tool icon is located in the bottom toolbar to the right of the pop up menus. Tapping the icon toggles between zoom or pan mode. Tapping the icon will switch you into the mode pictured on the icon. In other words, if the icon is a hand, you can switch to pan mode my tapping it. Then the icon will switch to a square to so that tapping it brings you to zoom mode. Just remember: if the icon shows a hand you are in zoom mode, but if the icon shows a square you are in pan mode. Another tip: the zoom tool starts at the center of the square and pulls out. The square that you pull out will be the new window of view. You can also pan and zoom by using hardware buttons, voice commands, or the buttons at the top of your window. You can quickly zoom by using the View>Zoom menu.

Print your route:

Use Route>View and the Print button.

Now you can print our your routes from your PC. Once you have an active route set you may view the step by step instructions in the view route window. This window is located under the route menu. From the view route window you have the option to print by using the Print button in the upper right hand corner of the window. This feature is only available on the PC, not the PDA.

Get MORE screen area:

Check the Use Full Screen Mode box in the preferences window.

Under View>Preferences>Display there is a check box at the bottom of the window. When the box is checked you will not see the top toolbar with navigation buttons and scale. This option gives you more room to view the map. There are still many ways to navigate the map without the top toolbar buttons. You may use hardware buttons, voice commands, or the pan-zoom tool. Another tip: to get even more screen area select Tools>Navigation>None and this will minimize the bottom route window if it is already open.

Search the universe!

Use our new and improved search categories.

Use Tools>Find>Other… to search for places when you don’t know the address. You now can select from categories such as Airport, Hotel, Restaurant, or Waypoint. You can even search for an airport using its three-character airport code. Tips for the find command: make sure that you have the POI’s loaded in the area you are searching. The find engine will search for areas that are outside of your current view too. It will also search for partial words.

Steer clear of traffic jams

Load up to date traffic info by connecting to the internet

From you home computer or internet enabled PDA you can now download the most current traffic reports. There are two ways to load traffic information. You can either go to File>Load>Load in view>Traffic or you can right click on the map and go to Load/Unload>Other maps>Traffic.  Once traffic information is loaded you will see warnings placed at locations of traffic jams. Each warning is ranked on a scale of 1 to 4, 4 being the most severe. You may click on a warning for a description of the traffic problem and then you may easily add an avoid waypoint to reroute.
