Adding / Deleting Waypoints

A waypoint is a position marker that can be used to help create a route or simply to mark a position for future reference. You can create waypoints regardless of whether the GPS receiver is active or inactive.

To Create or Add a Waypoint

There are three ways to create your own waypoints:

1.During Street Navigation, use the Find Address feature. Once a list of addresses is found, selecting the correct address and then clicking on Go To will create a waypoint at that address.  Only use the Find Address feature for land navigation (i.e. to find a hotel or location before or after you are at sea).

note
If you are searching for a city or a town, selecting Go To will prompt you to decide if you would like to add the city as a waypoint; adding it as a waypoint will automatically load the street maps as well.
note
Note that this function is only for street navigation; if you need to add water waypoints use either of the following two methods.

2.Right-click on the desired waypoint location. On the displayed menu, select Add Waypoint. A waypoint will be created at the desired location.   This is handy for quickly creating waypoints on visible areas of the map.

During a trip (see Planning a Trip) remember that your waypoints will be connected by straight lines (including over land). Select intermediate waypoints to ensure an accurate trip.

3.Manually enter known location coordinates using the Clipboard icon waypoints3 in the Waypoints window (Tools > Waypoints). The coordinates can be entered in either decimal degrees, degrees decimal, or degree-minute-second format depending on which notation you have selected from the City/Road/YP/WPT tab in the Preferences window.

To record a new waypoint or change an existing point, click/tap the waypoint marker on the map screen. The waypoint menu box will appear allowing you to modify waypoint characteristics. Alternatively, select the waypoint from within the Waypoints window directly. Select the Go To option after right-clicking (tapping and holding) on a waypoint to automatically center the map on your point. You can also modify whether you want to actually see the point on the map by right-clicking (tapping and holding) and selecting Visible or by using the Eyeeyeicon in the waypoints toolbar. Also, you may want to use the Clipboard waypoints3 feature to add or duplicate (then modify) a point.
