TELETYPE GPS
GEOTIFF UTILITY DOCUMENTATION

TeleType GPS offers the ability to import geocoded TIFF files among the many formats TeleType GPS supports.  Geocoded TIFF files can be used independently within the TeleType GPS software or in combination with TeleType GPS maps provided such as street maps or aviation maps.  GeoTIFF maps can be used in conjunction with any country offered by TeleType GPS.

PACKAGE CONTENTS

GeoTiff.zip includes:

1) One readme.txt file
2) Two .dll files
    • GeoTiff\PocketPC\ARMRel\tiff2bmp.dll (For PDA and Pocket PC)
    • GeoTiff\win32\tiff2bmp.dll (For PC and laptop)

Note: Both .dll files have the same name, so make sure you install the correct file to its corresponding device!

INSTALLATION NOTES

1) Unzip the GeoTiff.zip file to a temporary folder on your PC.

2) On your Windows 2000/XP PC or laptop: Copy tiff2bmp.dll from the "GeoTiff\win32" path to your TeleType GPS software directory, which is "C:\Program Files\Gps". (Overwrite any files if they exist.)

3) On your Pocket PC or PDA: Copy the contents of the "GeoTiff\PocketPC\ARMRel" path to your TeleType GPS software directory, which is "\Program Files\Gps". (Overwrite any files if they exist.)

USING THE GEOTIFF UTILITY

To import the geocoded TIFF files, simply load the files as you would load regular street maps.

1) On the TeleType GPS program, go to File > Load > Load Map...

2) When the Load Maps window pops up, select the GeoTIFF file you wish to open.  They are usually in .tif or .tiff format, but can also include .jpg, .jpeg, and other common GeoTIFF file formats.

3) The map will automatically load on your screen.  Depending on the quality and resolution of your files, some maps may take longer to load.

4) To view TeleType street maps or POIs in conjunction with the GeoTIFF maps, you can easily load street maps as you normally would on your PC or PDA.  You can also use the GeoTIFF maps while in Aviation mode.

5) To unload the GeoTIFF map, go to File > Manage Maps, and select your GeoTIFF map from the list, and press Unload Selected Map(s).

IMPORTANT NOTES

Maps produced from scanned paper maps may lose the projection accuracy of digitized maps, and not match up with the TeleType GPS street maps.  As a result, there may be an offset when trying to view TeleType GPS street maps with scanned paper maps.

Also, some GeoTIFF files will be too large to view using a PDA and Pocket PC.  The error will usually result in a black screen loading where your map should be.  If this occurs, the user will need to need to manually cut and re-encode the GeoTIFF file.  We recommend using this website.  The following link will provide you with information on how to perform this manual cutting and re-encoding, as well as the program necessary to do this operation.
