for TeleType CF/PCMCIA GPS Receivers

Windows 2000/XP:
(With Hardware Install Wizard)

  1. Insert your TeleType GPS Card into the laptop.
  2. Message appears: Found New Hardware.
  3. Click "Next" on install wizard.
  4. Select "Display a list of the known drivers..." and click next.
  5. Click on "Ports (Com & LPT)" then click next.
  6. Select under Manufacturers: "(Standard port types)" under Models: "Communications Port" then click next.
  7. On Update Driver Warning dialog box, press "Yes".
  8. Press "Next" on found New Hardware wizard.
  9. Press "Finish".

Windows 2000/XP:
(Without Hardware Install Wizard)

  1. Insert your TeleType GPS Card into the laptop.
  2. Click on Start, Control Panel, then System.
  3. Go to the Hardware Tab, then to Device Manager.
  4. Locate the item with a large yellow question mark entitled “Other Devices”. If not expanded, click on the adjacent plus sign and look for your GPS device.
  5. Right-click on your GPS device and click Properties.
  6. Next window that appears is Hardware Update Wizard. Click in circle next to Install from Specific Location and then click on Next at the bottom of the window.
  7. In the next window, click in circle next to "Don’t Search. I will Choose Driver" and then click on Next at the bottom of the window.
  8. A list of Hardware Types will appear; scroll down and click on the entry, "Ports (COM & LPT)". Then click Next.
  9. The window that appears will have a list of items on the right, select one of the COM entries, making note of the number of the com port selected. Will be, for example COM(10). Click 'OK' and close everything.

Post-Install Operations

To determine serial port number:
1. Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Hardware (tab)>Device Manager
2. Select "Ports (Com & LPT)
3. Note number next to Communications Port (such as Com 10)

Changing Port Number within Device Manager:

1. Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Hardware (tab)>Device Manager
2. Select "Ports (Com & LPT)
3. Note number next to Communications Port (such as Com 10)
4. Select Properties>Advance>
5. Reselect Com Port Number. If port shown as in use and you know that is not then select it anyway
6. Click OK 

Assign the same serial port for the TeleType GPS program:
1. Activate TeleType GPS application.
2. Tools>GPS Status>Serial I/O (tab)
3. Select the appropriate port (such as Com 10).

Windows defaults to installation of comm port to the first available slot (which could actually be a conflict). To change the slot number:
1. Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Hardware (tab)>Device Manager
2. Select "Ports (Com & LPT)
3. Select Com port assigned to TeleType GPS
4. Right Click, select Properties.
5. Select Port Settings (tab), Advanced
6. Dial Com port number

Set Up TeleType Program

  1. Start up the TeleType Program.
  2. Go to Tools, then GPS Status.
  3. Select your COM port, then click the Open Port button, which should promptly change to a Close Port button.
  4. If the GPS data is scrolling, then your GPS has been successfully configured.
