Is your TeleTypeGPS

Yes, the TeleTypeGPS Serial Card COM Ports are standard. We use a 16550A UART with built-in data buffers which enable Windows users to run fast modems at full speed without wasting bandwidth for re-transmitting missing characters.

How can I change TeleTypeGPS PCMCIA
Card resources under Windows 95? 

In Windows 95, resources are automatically assigned to every device that Windows 95 discovers. When you insert the TeleTypeGPS PCMCIA Card in the PC Card socket, Windows 95 assigns a default IRQ, I/O address and Memory range. Sometimes a resource conflict can occur when the TeleTypeGPS PCMCIA Card default setting interferes with other devices already located and installed by Windows 95. 

  • To change resource allocation:
     
    1. In Control Panel, double-click the System icon and select the Device Manager tab. 
    2. Double-click COM (Port & LP) or Global Positioning Devices, and then double-click TeleTypeGPS Card
    3. Select the Resources tab and if there is a resource conflict, clear the Use Automatic Settings check box. 
    4. Highlight the conflicting resource you want to change and click Change Setting. 
    5. Set the value to any free expectable range. 
    6. Click OK and reset the computer to apply the new resource value. 

How can I change TeleTypeGPS PCMCIA
Card resources under Windows 98? 

In Windows 98, resources are automatically assigned to every device that Windows 98 discovers. When you insert the TeleTypeGPS PCMCIA Card in the PC Card socket, Windows 98 assigns a default IRQ, I/O address and Memory range. Sometimes a resource conflict can occur when the TeleTypeGPS PCMCIA Card default setting interferes with other devices already located and installed by Windows 98.

What can I do when the TeleTypeGPS PCMCIA Card
cannot connect to a Serial COM Port device? 

This may occur in one of two cases: 

Case 1: Installation was successful, but the TeleTypeGPS Serial Card cannot connect to a Serial COM Port device (resource allocation problem). 

  • To check and change resource allocation: 
  1. In Control Panel, double-click the System icon and select the Device Manager tab. 
  2. Check if the TeleTypeGPS PCMCIA Card is marked with a red X or yellow exclamation mark. If so, try changing the card resources, Memory range, IRQ or I/O Address as follows: 
    • Double-click TeleTypeGPS Card. 
    • Select the Resources tab. If there is a resource conflict, clear the Use Automatic Settings check box. 
    • Change any of the resource that have a conflict by highlighting the resource you want to change and then clicking Change Setting to any free expectable value. 
    • Click OK and reset the computer to apply the new resource value. 

Case 2 Installation was successful but there is no serial connection (incorrect COM port device configuration. 

  1. In Control Panel, double-click the System icon and select the Device Manager tab. 
  2. Check if the TeleTypeGPS Serial Card is marked with a red X or yellow exclamation mark. If it is not, and you still can't gain access to another serial COM port device, you need to reconfigure the COM port setting. 
  • To configure the COM port setting: 
  1. In the Control Panel, double-click the System icon, and select the Device Manager tab. 
  2. Double-click Ports (COM and LPT) or Global Positioning Devices, highlight TeleTypeGPS Card and click Properties
  3. Select the Resource tab. 
  4. Clear the Use Automatic Setting check box, highlight the I/O output range or IRQ you wish to change, and acknowledge. 
  • To configure the COM port BIOS: 

Access your computer's BIOS and make sure that no serial device uses the same IRQ and I/O address you wish to allocate to the TeleTypeGPS Serial Card. (For specific instructions, use your computer manual or contact your supplier.) 

How can I remove and reinstall the TeleType GPS
Serial Card under Windows 95 (Version 4.00.950 or 4.00950a)? 

You must remove a partial or earlier installation before you can reinstall the TeleTypeGPS Serial PC Card. Before you remove an installation, make sure that the card in inserted in the PC Card slot.  

  • To remove a partial or earlier installation: 
  1. From the Start menu, select Settings
  2. Click Control Panel and double-click the System icon. 
  3. In the System Properties window, select the Device Manager tab and double-click Ports (COM & LPT) or Global Positioning Devices. 
  4. Select TeleTypeGPS Card and click Remove
  5. Click OK
  6. From the \WINDOWS\INF directory, remove the following files: 
    • TeleTypexx).INF ("i" indicates a digit, for example - OEM1.INF or OEM2.INF) TeleTypeGPS Serial setup file for Windows 95. 
  7. Shut down the computer. 
  • To install the TeleTypeGPS Serial Card under Windows 95 (Version 4.00.950 or 4.00.950a): 
  1. Start Window 95. 
  2. Insert the TeleTypeGPS Serial Card into the computer's PC Card slot. The Windows 95 software automatically detects the adapter and displays the New Hardware Found dialog box. 
    Note: If Windows 95 fails to detect the adapter, check that PC Card support is enabled in the Windows 95 system. Enable if necessary and reboot the computer. 
  3. Select the Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer option. 
  4. Type A:\ and select OK. The Copying Files window opens, and Windows 95 copies the necessary files. 

Installation is now complete!

Serial Card under Windows 95-OSR/2 (4.00.950b)? 

You must remove a partial or earlier installation before you can reinstall the TeleTypeGPS Serial PC Card. Before you remove an installation, make sure that the card in inserted in the PC Card slot. 

  • To remove a partial or earlier installation: 
  1. From the Start menu, select Settings
  2. Click Control Panel and double-click the System icon. 
  3. In the System Properties window, select the Device Manager tab and double-click Ports (COM & LPT)
  4. Select TeleTypeGPS Card and click Remove
  5. Double-click Other Devices
  6. Delete the PRTSRS.INF file from the \WINDOWS\INF\OTHER directory. 
  7. Shut down the computer. 
  • To install the TeleTypeGPS Serial Card under Windows 95-OSR/2 (4.00.950b): 
  1. Start Windows 95. 
  2. Insert the TeleTypeGPS Serial Card into the computer's PC Card slot. The Update Device Driver Wizard appears with the message TeleTypeGPS PC Card
    Note: If Windows 95 fails to detect the adapter, check that PC Card support is enabled in the Windows 95 system. Enable if necessary and reboot the computer. 
  3. Insert the TeleTypeGPS Serial Card distribution diskette and click Next. The following message appears: Windows found the following updated driver for this device: TeleTypeGPS Serial PC Card
  4. Click Finish
  5. Specify the path A:\ and click OK. The Copying Files window opens, and Windows 95 copies the necessary files. 
  6. The message Restart the computer appears. Click Yes

Installation is now complete! 

How can I remove and reinstall the TeleType GPS
Card under Windows 98? 

You must remove a partial or earlier installation before you can reinstall the TeleTypeGPS PC Card. Before you remove an installation, make sure that the card in inserted in the PC Card slot. 

  • To remove a partial or earlier installation: 
  1. From the Start menu, select Settings

  4. If available, Select TeleTypeGPS Serial Card and click Remove
  5. Double-click Other Devices
  6. If available, Select TeleTypeGPS Card and click Remove
  7. Delete the PRTSRS.INF file from the \WINDOWS\INF\OTHER directory. 
  8. Shut down the computer. 
  • To install the TeleTypeGPS Serial Card under Windows 98: 
  1. Start Windows 98. 
  2. Insert the TeleTypeGPS Serial Card into the computer's PC Card slot. The Add New Hardware Wizard appears with the message TeleTypeGPS Card

Note: If Windows 98 fails to detect the adapter, check that PC Card support is enabled in the Windows 98 system. Enable if necessary and reboot the computer. 
 

  1. Insert the TeleTypeGPS Card distribution diskette and Click Next.
  2. Select Search for the best drivers for your device and click Next
  3. Select the Floppy disk drives checkbox and click Next
  4. The message TeleTypeGPS Card is found appears. Click Next.
  5. Click Finish

Installation is now complete! 

What should I do if Windows 95 does not
recognize the TeleType GPS card automatically? 

First see if PCMCIA support under Windows 95 is enabled. 

  • To check PCMCIA support: 
  1. In the Control Panel, double-click the System icon. 
  2. In the System Properties window, select the Device Manager tab. 
  3. If PCMCIA Socket is marked with a red X: 
    • Double-click
      OR 
      Highlight the line and click Properties
    • Select the Current Hardware Configuration check box and save. 
    • Restart the computer. 
  • If PCMCIA Socket is marked with a yellow exclamation mark: 
    • Double-click
      OR 
      highlight the line and click Properties
    • Select the Resources tab. If a conflict exists, change to an unused resource and save. 
    • Restart the computer. 

Note: Do not attempt to load DOS card and socket services. Windows 95 has built in card and socket services. 

What should I do if Windows 98 does not
recognize the TeleTypeGPS Serial card automatically? 

First see if PCMCIA support under Windows 98 is enabled. 

  • To check PCMCIA support:

    • Select the Resources tab. If a conflict exists, change to an unused resource and save. 
    • Restart the computer. 

Note: Do not attempt to load DOS card and socket services. Windows 95 has built in card and socket services. 

If your attempts fail you can Disable one of the system COM ports. Start/Control Panel/System/Device Manager/Ports/

Click on the port you do not need, and click Properties. Click on Disable in the Hardware Profile.

 Close dialog and restart your machine.
